Gemstone Care
Even though gemstones have a high level of durability this doesn’t mean they are indestructible. Different gemstones require different types of care depending on their composition, because, for example, some gems are sensitive to temperature changes while others are vulnerable to household chemicals or even those used in cosmetics.
Gems should only be cleaned with a non-abrasive jewelry cleaner that clearly states it is safe to use on gemstones. Subsequently, use a soft cloth to wipe away any remaining dirt or residue.
Gems need to be protected in storage so they don’t touch any other jewelry or gems. Gemstones are much harder that other types of jewelry and they can end up scratching other pieces. Store your gems in a soft cloth to make sure they are protected.
Despite their hardness, gems should still be handled with care as rough surfaces, different chemicals and powerful shocks can damage your gems. It’s best that you handle them with care.
